Illuminated edition, Published with the Direct Sanction of His Eminence Cardinal Manning. Published by J.S. Virtue & Co., Ltd., London and Dublin. Undated (circa mid 1800's). Hard Cover. This is the beautifully presented Illuminated Edition, published and bound in 9 divisions (comprising 2 volumes). Probably the first edition thus. This is a lovely decorative set with stunning illustrations and a biography of the saints throughout the year. Each bound division approx. 27cm x 19cm. Original green cloth binding with gilt & black titles & decoration on spines & decorative front cover. All edges gilt. Illustrated with approx. Over 40 tissue guarded chromolithic plates. Vol 1: 888 pages. Vol 2: 865 pages. The preface, index, title page to Vol 2 and list of illustrations are bound in at the end of the 9 th division, slightly out of order! Some wear/bumping & light marking to boards & spine. Grubbiness to endpapers. Occasional foxing, one or two slightly loose pages. Presentation inscription to front endpaper of first division. Overall good+ condition. This is a heavy set, and I cannot therefore ship outside the UK. Insured carriage within the UK will be £10. Listed with low start price and no reserve!
