In this NO RESERVE auction, a wonderful piece of vintage memorabilia--now 128 years old, this upright churn is truly a rare find and stunning accent piece for the discerning collector of original Americana. The opening bid for this item is far less than I paid when I purchased it several years ago. Offered , dated 1878 this country butter churn--stenciling on which reads: Right side: " THE NEW BLANCHARD CHURN. Patented June 4. 1878. MADE ONLY BY P. BLANCHARD'S SONS, CONCORD. N.H." Left side (side with handle): "JOHN B-NARICK MANCHESTER, N.H." **unable to clearly read the second letter in last name, it appears to be a letter "a", thus, last name may have been Banarick. Top reads: "Will Churn Up to 4 Gallons. N o 4 N o 4 THE NEW BLANCHARD CHURN. " Iron Arm: "THE BLANCHARD CHURN" Front: stylized initial capital B Back: stylized initial capital B Measurements--height: approximately 33"; width: approximately 25" including handle; depth: approximately 16". Components are all intact. The wooden handle is attached to its original iron arm (upon which reads- "THE BLANCHARD CHURN" ). The arm turns, moving the interior paddle. T have been no repairs nor is t any damage noted to this item other than surface scratches and scuffs (as shown in photos) and some fading and wear of paint due to age.
