ca.1620 DESTRUCTION OF SODOM wdct from LUTHER BIBLEScene depicting Genesis ch 19. Large Folio leafWoodcut (6.2 x 4.2 inches) depicting: Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrha.Leaf measures: 13.7 x 8 inches.Original woodcut attributed MS (possibly M[elchoir] Schwarzenburg) an engraver of the illustrations to the Wittenberg Bible of 1534.From the paper we would date the leaf to about 1620.This is an ORIGINAL LEAF from an early Luther Bible. We do not sell reprints. A very good impresssion. Some marginal staining, spotting & minor marginal fingering. 4 of 9 wormholes into image. Leaf with even tone aging & a touch dusty.
