This gorgeous HAND-MADE ANTIQUE TABLECLOTH was crocheted by hand during the final years of WWII . I've framed my photographs very carefully so the pattern would reveal itself to you. The simple description is that THIS IS A PATTERN OF DOGWOOD BLOSSOMS . But the full truth is more complex and much more interesting: the artist who crocheted this quilt designed the pattern so that YOU CAN "BREAK DOWN" EACH LARGER DOGWOOD BLOSSOM INTO A COMPLEX PUZZLE-LIKE COMPOSITION OF TINY LEAVES AND FLOWERS . Then move back to PHOTO #1 and you'll see that t are FOUR such "dogwood blossom" motifs in this photo -- two in the top row and two in the bottom row. 2.) PHOTO #3 shows a view that's approximately (2.5 motifs) x (1.5 motifs) you see 2.5 motifs working HORIZONTALLY and 1.5 motifs working VERTICALLY. 3.) I took PHOTO #4 on my lawn, laying the tablecloth down very lightly on top of the grass for a minute or two so I could show you the ENTIRE TABLECLOTH -- it's so big that this is as close as I could get to an ENTIRE full view (after all, it's SIX FEET by A BIT MORE THAN SEVEN FEET -- a handsomely ample size). 4.) Look at PHOTO #2 once more -- see the FOUR PETALS making up the dogwood
