Up for auction is an antique ogee clock from an estate. The brass movement is marked Forestville Mfg Co, Bristol CT. As we understand it, Forestville Mfg co was in business from 1835 to 1840, succeeded by Hills Brown & Co 1840-1841, then bought out by JC Brown, Chauncey Pomeroy and EN Welch in 1841, with some or all name son movements after this. With this little bit of Bristol CT history, we were able to date the movement to 1835 to 1840. It is mechanically sound, some tarnish, both weights, pendulum and is running, but will need some adjusting to keep good time and a basic tuneup. Also included is a key. Both glass panels on door are contemporary replacements with nice paint job on lower section. Some missing veneer, finish appears to be original, dark mahogany after all these years of age/patina. T is rubbing to finish, as photos show, but does look to be about 90% complete, in our estimation. Interior paper label missing. The face panel may or may not be original, we are unsure. It is old, but may be circa early 1900s. The paint job is contemporary, with wear, including 2 large sections of missing paint through lower middle, as photo shows. The minute hand and hour hand held on by a brad and do not match. Clock measures 16 3/8"w x 28 3/4"h x 4 1/4"d. A wonderful find.
