C1870 SATTERLEE & MORY STONEWARE JUG CROCK FT EDWARD NY This listing is for a nice circa 1870's Satterlee & Mory stoneware crock or jug. The jug measures 16 inches or 40.5 cm high, and is 10 inches or 25.5 cm in diameter at the bottom rim. The crock is decorated on the front with a flower form in cobalt blue. The crock is marked on the top with an impressed mark that reads "SATTERLEE & MORY FT. EDWARD NY", with a number "3" underneath. The crock has a small handle at the back by the rim. The manufacture of stoneware was a major industry in Fort Edward beginning in 1858. George Satterlee opened the Fort Edward Pottery Co. in 1859. Michael Mory joined the firm in 1861 to form Satterlee and Mory. The crock has three small chips on the top rim. There are also some chips on bottom of the crock. All minor and do not take away from the character of the crock. Please see the many photos for more on the look and condition. There is no reserve on this nicely decorated early crock.
