Ostby & Barton of Providence, Rhode Island was a reputable company known for producing nice gold jewelry. The encyclopedia Titanica has documented the company's strong ties with the Titanic. Beginning in 1906, the company's founder Englehart Cornelius Ostby started taking his daughter Helene to Europe on business trips to learn of the latest jewelry designs. He purchased tickets for two first class cabins aboard the Titanic in 1912, on which he perished. Mr. Ostby's body was one of the few that were recovered, later identified by gold-filled teeth, gold watch and chain, knife, glasses, diary, two pocket books, and papers. The tragedy claimed many prominent business men including the wealthiest John Jacob Astor IV. Mr. Ostby's body was identified and brought back by one of his employees and buried in Providence. His daughter Helene lived until 1978, and was buried close to her father. This delicately designed ring has survived many years, the mounting is gorgeous and is in the style of a solitaire engagement ring. The original pearl's top nacre is worn revealing a pattern of three faint striations. It could be respected and cherished in its present condition or one could easily replace the pearl with either a different pearl or other gem. Either way, this Ostby & Barton ring would be a great gift for Titanic enthusiasts. Item 1 read more
