You are bidding on a c1930's tin Chad Valley Black Minstrel mechanical bank . The company began in around 1830 when a British printer by the name of Anthony Bunn Johnson began to make simple games for children as a sideline. In 1860 his two sons, Joseph and Alfred, branched out on their own, setting up a similar business, "Johnson Brothers" that operated from George Street , Birmingham , England . In 1897 the business moved to new premises on the edge of Birmingham in a Valley next to the river Chad - inspiring the new name "Chad Valley Company Limited" which was adopted some years later. The name Chad Valley first appeared on toys in around 1920. In 1931 they took over the long-established toy manufacturers Peacock and Company - bringing not only new product lines but also new capabilities. For the first time the company could produce complex metal toys like model trains, cars and mechanical banks. These lines proved very popular. One common feature has applied throughout the last 144 years they have been in business - a quality built product that's second to none. The bank is in excellent condition with a light nicks & scratches, mainly on the top. Has 96% of the original paint Pristine Condition with no cracks, chips, breaks, repairs or damage of any kind unless stated. Has one small dent pictured. The surface finish is 100% original, near mint shiny front - it has never been restored, repainted, touched up or altered in any way . The lock should be intact, no key. 5" tall x 4 1/2" wide. Not pictured in any of my reference books but these generally run in the $300 range, especially in this good condition. I suggest to the winner to print a copy of this auction, it will increase the resale value of your purchase tremendously having this information as a hard copy along with the bank. You are paying for this information, make use of it! Plus it's fun to look back in 20 years and say I only paid $200 for that way back when. Most of the banks today selling for $200-$400 were $15-$50 in the mid 1970's, big money when the reference guides I have were printed. Please ask any and all questions before auction ends. No refunds for buyer's remorse. Items are photographed and described accurately. YOU MUST CONTACT ME WITH IN THREE DAY'S OF AUCTION END OR I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL THE AUCTION & RELIST. I WILL LEAVE NEGATIVE FEED BACK. DON'T BID IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO PAY FOR THE AUCTION. I HAVE HAD QUITE A FEW NON-PAYING BIDDERS, PLEASE DON'T BE ONE!!! Payment due in 10 days. International rates are extended. Shipped via USPS priority without ...
