Girard-Perregaux have been making some of the world’s foremost watches since 1880. Indeed, they made the world’s first production wristwatch, intended for use by the German navy.This is only of a handful of Girard-Perregaux I have ever listed on ebay (the others have been very well received), it is another watch I am liquidating from my collection. It is automatic gentleman's 'Gyromatic' example finished in rolled gold dating from circa 1974. It features a high-beat frequency movement of 36,000 beats per hour, significantly outstripping the main competitors of the era. This high beat rate is clearly evident when holding the watch to one's ear (despite the GP cases being extremely well sound-proofed).The dial is best described as a rounded hexagon in shape and finished in an unusual yet striking gold 'mesh'. It condition is good condition as the photography shows, a couple of very minor blemishes when scrutinised under the eye-glass. All hands to include the sweep centre seconds are also in gold to match the dial and case. The hours are gold spiraled batons interspersed with steel and gold applied round markers. 'GP' acts as the 12-hour, the signatures again repeated on the original winding crown. The dial clearly reads "Girard Perregaux Gyromatic" in black print and also features the day and date.
