Thisis the 1941 Christmas annual of The Nabob, a publication by foodwholesaler Kelly-Douglas of Vancouver BC which was aimed at retailers and suppliers. The cover features an illustration of members of the Canadian navy, army & air force, and the publication mentions the war effort on several occasions. Coffee was obviously lucrative long before Starbucks – 40 of the publication's 148 pages are devoted to the subject in a section printed on different paper stock. Tobacco & candy has 12 pages on colored paper stock. There is an interesting two-page feature on world oil production which shows that Canada was the 15th biggest producer, lagging behind countries such as Peru, Trinidad and Borneo. There are photo & text features on: Glacier National Park, Kingston ON, Banff Windermere Hwy, apples, winter sports including skiing, Banff, Prince George, Swift Current including historical photos, Victoria, Canada's hot springs including Jasper, Saskatoon, Manitoba, and AL Raymond Groceteria in Hull QC. Numerous ads show then-current labels and packaging. Advertisers include: Roger's Sugar, Nabob coffee, American Can Co, Wm Rogers & Son silver, Dominion Glass, Scott's Emulsion, Eno, Carnation Milk, Macdonald's tobacco, Florasynth Laboratories (food flavors & extracts), Westinghouse Mazda lamps, Planter's peanuts, Wrigley's, Hires root beer, read more
