Offered here without reserve is this 2-panel ca 1830 gold gilt mirror with the upper panel being an eglomise depiction of two warring ships ... American and British with the British ship obviously having the worst of it. Most likely a depiction of the USS Constitution during the War of 1812. The mirror appears to have been regilded as there is evidence of now missing rosettes in the corners (see picture 8). The silvering to the mirror itself has begun to deteriorate as seen in my 7th picture. The eglomise itself is in remarkably good condition which opens the door to the possibility that it is a repaint ... but if so, clearly done many many moons ago. Regardless, this is a striking piece and warrants inclusion in any early American decorative scheme. Measurements are as follows: 29 1/2" x 13 1/2", with the eglomise panel measuring 10" x 8 3/4". Again, there is no reserve but buyer pays $25 for domestic USPS shipping.
