California: San Francisco, 1862 5c #75(Horiz Pair) on env to NY with manuscript “Overland.” SAN FRANCISCO CAL / DEC 23 1862 (San Francisco County, 1849 to date) Fine black double-circle DS with bold black fancy cancels ties Red-Brown 5c Scott #75(Horiz Pair) on envelope addressed to “Miss Bentner, Care Mess. Hook Skinner, New York” with manuscript “Overland” at lower left corner. Nearly Fine appearance, lt. soiling, backflap with damage from rough opening, traces of old hinge mounts on back. Stamps are Fine centering with crisp impressions. Very pleasing and attractive cover. See photographs. From a fresh collection of United States Postal History.
