Camille Corot, 1796-1875, was the acknowledged master of French traditional landscape painting. His priceless works take pride of place in prestigious galleries worldwide. In 1875, Corot visited Umbria, and sketched and painted the ruined Roman bridge at Narni. This stunning and delightful large landscape was his debut submission to the Salon of 1827, and the original hangs in the National Gallery of Canada. My father, a professional artist, painted this exact replica during the 1980's, that was his trade, however this piece is so beautiful that it has remained in our family until today. He used period media and every brushstroke is faithfully copied, it would take an expert to distinguish this from the original. The fresh atmospheric details and deft composition, bathed in brilliant light, create an endlessly fascinating glimpse into a vanished past of rural tranquillity. "The Bridge at Narni" is mounted in a gorgeous antique moulded hardwood frame which is historically appropriate, and actually a delight in itself.
