Represented on the obverse, there is the portrait of Her Majesty Elizabeth II. The upper part of this Canada coin includes the inscription indicating the Queen’s name. Below the effigy, there are the legends denoting the face value of the coin as well as its issuing year. The reverse design features a fully colored Wood bison against the vivid background of Canadian woods. The embodiment of strength and endurance, these huge animals have suffered population declines due to hunting and human encroachment. As of today, Canada is the only country in the world where Wood bison live in the wild. At the top of the reverse, there is the inscription indicating the name of the issuing country. The metal fineness and standard of coinage are indicated at the bottom of the coin.
