Lot 2 of a collection of badges to the Pictou Highlanders. PLEASE NOTE! You are bidding on the item in the first scan (front and back) only! Other scans are included to show the difference in the varieties I am currently offering for sale on eBay. Lot 2 is small brass numeral ‘78’ mounted between the antlers of the brass sporran badge. The Pictou Highlanders were originally raised as a component of the Canadian Militia under the designation of the Colchester and Hants Provisional Battalion of Infantry with headquarters at New Glasgow, Nova Scotia effective April 6th 1871. After a number of changes in designation effective March 1st 1910 the regiment was designated the 78th Regiment Pictou Highlanders. In WWI the regiment contributed 127 volunteers the 13th Battalion CEF on its formation at Camp Valcartier in August 1914 and later to the five highland battalions of the Nova Scotia Highland Brigade. In the 1920 post WWI reorganization of the Canadian Militia the regiment was designated as the Pictou Highlanders. In WWII the regiment served on garrison duty in Newfoundland and provided defence companies for both the Bahamas and Bermuda. In 1954 the regiment amalgamated with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and the 189th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery to form the 1st Battalion Nova Scotia Highlanders.
