JAMES COOK'S VARIOUS VOYAGES, THOSE OF LA PEROUSE, AND OTHERS. GENERAL INFORMATION ON THESE ITEMS: EACH ITEM in this series of auctions will be described as to size, paper, condition, and with all legends either shown in the scans, or repeated in our description.With dozens of printings of books about these explorations of the pacific, beginning with the 'anonymous' early printings of Both Cook's and La Perouse's travels, and with a host of different dimensions from small pocket sized volumes to atlas folios, we simply have not researched each image to determine its actual origin. WE LEAVE THAT TO THE EXPERTS! What we can say is that most, of not all of these images were printed before 1820. T ARE NO MODERN REPRINTS! DESCRIPTION: ORIGINAL ENGRAVING TITLED: A DANCE in OTAHEITE. This plate is marked as being drawn by J. Webber, and engraved by J. K. Sherwin. See our scans for these details. Since Sherwin died in 1790, this is clearly a folio plate from the original editions of Cook's Voyages. The number '28' appears in the upper right hand corner, just inside the plate mark.
