Carl Spitzweg was a 19th Century German visual artist who was born in 1808. Numerous works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'Die Plauderstunde (A Good Gossip)' sold at Sotheby's London '19th Century European Paintings including German, Austrian & Central European Paintings, The Orientalist Sale, Spanish Painting and The Scandinavian Sale' in 2009 for $3,561,750. There have been Several articles about Carl Spitzweg, including ' Ketterer Kunst's sale of art from the 15th to the 19th centuries has more than 40% new buyers' written for ArtDaily in 2014. The artist died in 1885.
