Very rare and seldom seen Carl Walters studio pottery hippo from the 1930s. Wonderfully figured and decorated. Good scale. Measures: 10x4x4.5 inches. No condition issues to note. Fully signed. Walters work like this is rare and sells well at major auctions. per vasefinder: Carl Walters studied at the Chase School under Robert Henri. He was tied to the Ashcan School. Although Walters worked in several mediums, he was best known for his animal sculptures. He also did some limited design work for the Associated American Artists and their Stonelain Pottery. He is truly one of the great sculptors from the early part of the Movement. Exhibited at the Nationals from 1935-1941, 1946, 1947 and 1949.
