This is a design which I've been wanting to carve for quite some time, and had initially planned to make it for listing on my website, but...I've decided to offer it on ebay instead. Most of you will recognize this as the white rabbit from the Alice in Wonderland story, dressed up as the Queen's herald and with a small golden horn and scroll. The design is similar to the illustration which was used in many of the books but I have made several alterations in order to make it better suited to carving in bakelite. The pin is constructed of several different pieces, all carved to fit one another like a puzzle and laminated together permanently. The base of the pin is the marbled white which is the color of the rabbit and is quite thick. Into that I inlaid the rest of the colors, including black for the rabbit's tunic, red for the shirt sleeves, opaque white for the collar and scroll, and a big red heart carefully inlaid into the black tunic. The rabbit also has a big blue (with black pupil and white highlight) bakelite eye inlaid. The horn is painted with gold enamel paint. This is a fan-diddly-tastic pin and represents some of my better work in design and carving. It is carefully polished, measures right at 3 inches in length and hangs perfectly from a shiney brass pin component which I secured to the back. My signature and the date are inscribed t on the back as well. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the oxidization process of vintage bakelite, the whites that I used in the construction of this pin will age over time to shades of pale yellow, the color commonly referred to as "cream corn" by bakelite jewelry collectors, making it a very classic and vintage looking piece. The other colors will pretty much stay the same, although the blue will turn a bit greenish. Shipping Policy I provide free 1st class shipping with delivery confirmation. Please note that insurance is HIGHLY advised but is optional and extra. I can not be responsible for what happens to packages once I deliver it to the post office. I do my utmost best to ship items the day following reciept of payment, but t are times when I may need up to 4 days to get to the post office, anything beyond that and I will contact you.
