CARVED AND PAINTED WOODEN FIGURE OF A MAN Amish or Mennonite, Circa 1940sIn a seated position. Chip-carved black hair. Wearing a yellow shirt, black pants and red boots. Screw-eyes placed in each shoulder, probably to support figure while seated on a bench. Used to attract customers to the spice stores operated by the Amish and Mennonites. Height 49.5.The consignor purchased this from a barn in Pennsylvania many years ago.Provenance: The Morgan Rank Collection of Folk Art and Musical Instruments.ConditionSome flaking to old paint.
