Offered for bids is the one and only prototype 51050LSSP from the W. R.Case & Sons "Factory Collection"described in "CASE, The First Hundred Years", ChapterEight, and specifically shown on page 124 of thatvolume. The sale of this collection to Smoky MountainKnife Works in January 1989 to complete theacquisition of Case by Jim Parker is described in his"Pocketknife Trader's Price Guide" series. Comments on thistransaction by John Parker, then President of SMKW,are found in the "CASE" book and reprinted in thecatalog that he put out for the sale. An originalcolor Case Factory Sale Catalog as well as theCertificate of Authenticity signed by both men isincluded in this auction. Pictures of both of theseitems accompany this offering and will be sent withthe knife. The knife is the massive 5 3/8" folding hunterpattern with nickel silver bolsters and swing guard.The raised silver script Case XX shield, inlet into themassive stag scale, was only used by Case from 1985 to1988. This Prototype became the American BladeCollector Association's 1987 commemorative knife. Thetang is stamped correctly on the front "CASE XX" over"(2dots)SS(one dot)" over "USA" (all lightning S's);and on the back tang is stamped "PROTO" over 51050LSSP.
