Description Please note – USA only for this item! Whether these items should be called “antique” versus “vintage” depends, from our point of view, in determining if they are at least 100 years old. There are no markings on the case or on the blades, but we do think that they date from the latter part of the 19th century. One of the “blades” – we don’t know the exact term for these items – is a bit longer than the other with a cutting edge of just over 6¼” (the other edge is a bit under 6¼”); both are between 7¾” and 8” overall. You’ll see from our pictures that there originally was a 3rd item in the case, but it apparently had a much thinner blade; it was missing when we acquired the set. The case is 8” long, 2” wide, and a bit less than 2” tall. It is covered with a cloth material similar to the cloth once used for book covers. Although we can’t tell for certain, the case may originally been a dark purple (the inside lining is purple) that has faded over the years. It has 2 hinges on the back, and a simple clasp on the lid that attaches to a small knob on the lip of the base to keep it closed. Although it holds securely, the lid-to-base fit is not perfect.
