Up for auction is the MALE figure - one of a set of two cast iron PERIOD Amish, Mennonite, Pennsylvania Dutch - you name it - action door knockers. When you lift the knocker - - in the case of the man it's the beard, for the woman it's the bow of her bonnet, their eyes open. When you lower the knocker back down, the eyes shut again. These are ABSOLUTELY PERIOD. They were removed in 2004 from an old house in Brick, New Jersey, constructed long before World War II, which was slated for demolition. They had been mounted on the front and rear doors for more than 60 years. This was told me by the original owner's granddaughter who was well into her seventies and remembered them as being t when she was a little child. She always tried to reach them and play with them, but they were mounted too high for her. This was in the late 1930s.Painted condition is excellent. No repairs, very little wear. These are pristine aged. They are being offered separately but I will combine the two lots if the same bidder succeeds in winning both. They measure approx. 4.5 inches long, the man is about 4 inches wide at the brim of the hat, the woman about 3.75 inches at the curl of her cap. These are GUARANTEED OLD.
