Catlinite Pipestone Native American Beaver Effigy Peace Pipe Here is an excellent Catlinite Pipestone Beaver Effigy peace pipe. This hand carved effigy peace pipe is carved from Sacred Catlinite Pipestone and depicts a beaver and a tree stump as the bowl. This piece is a highly detailed, hand carved, signed one-of-a-kind by Tali a Native American Master Carver. This pipe measures approximately 5 3/4 inches long and 2 3/4 inches tall. The Native Americans did not smoke pipes for the sake of smoking as people do today. They believed smoking to be very spiritual and combined it with prayer and communion with the Great Spirit. That to me is what makes effigy pipes so interesting. There is always a reason for the particular effigy, Not simply decoration. These pipes were always treated with great care and respect.
