Unusual Catlinite Pipestone Eagle Head Effigy Peace Pipe This is another pipe from my personal collection which I am downsizing, so please be sure to check out my other listings as well. This pipe is in amazing condition with no repairs. This pipe is carved from Sacred Catlinite Pipestone into an Eagle Head Effigy. The pipe measures 2 1/2 inches long and is just over 1 1/4 inches tall. The Eagle has long been a symbol of honor, strength, speed and stealth to the Native Americans. The Native Americans did not smoke pipes for the sake of smoking as people do today. They believed smoking to be very spiritual and combined it with prayer and communion with the Great Spirit. That to me is what makes effigy pipes so interesting. There is always a reason for the particular effigy, Not simply decoration. These pipes were always treated with great care and respect.
