CATTON Norfolk 1902 Doulton Lambeth Edward VII Jug/Pitcher With over 3000 positive feedbacks you know you can trust us. A rare example of this Doulton jug made as a private edition for Catton, a suburb of Norwich, the village symbol is a cat on a barrell. This impressive Doulton Lambeth brown stoneware pitcher or jug was made in 1902 to celebrate the Coronation of King Edward VII.. These impressive stoneware jugs are regarded as some of the best work from Doulton Lambeth, they were not mass produced, each one being hand thrown by the potter and then each was passed to the decorator.who individually hand-decorated each one, as such no two pitchers are ever quite the same. The front of the jug has a large applied relief moulded bust of King Edward VII set within relief floral emblems flanked on one side by a cat and on the other side a barrell.. The base of strap handle is particularly impressive being terminated by a large spray of the British floral emblems, the rose of England, the thistle of Scotland and the shamrock of Ireland. The pitcher is 5 1/2" - 130mm tall and about a half pint capacity. The jug is in excellent overall condition apart from a small chip on the rim visible in the 4th & 5th photo. The Doulton Lambeth backstamp is impressed on the base together with the number 981. 04.12.038
