This CD contains plans and reference photos for 100 historicbuildings from all around America . If you like scratch building the structures for your model railroad, this is what you have always been looking for. When you have detailed plans along with photos of the real building it is almost cheating! The buildings date from 17th century to early 20th century. All were in use into the 20th century and many are still standing today. T is plenty in suitable for whatever era you model. At the end of listing is a list of all buildings included on each volume along with the number of measured drawings and photos. Most of the photos were taken between 1920's and 1960's with some dating back to about 1870 or so. A few have photos of the building taken over a course of many years. One of them starts out as a beautiful mansion in the middle of a field surrounded by teepees and slowly degenerates into a bombed out crack house in the middle of skid row! Some are photographed when they were new, some had seen better days, and some are mostly in ruins. It is some very interesting stuff. No effort has been made to be sensitive about the subject matter included. When building a model railroad layout it is usually an attempt to recreate what is remembered as a happier time and place. But it is also an attempt accurately recreate a time and a place. Some of the big houses include plans of the slave quarters. One of the volumes has structure from the WWII Japanese relocation camps. T are some cold war relics. Volume 4 even has a slave a market included. May not be pretty, but history is what it is. And by the way, the slave market in volume 4 is still standing today. Makes you wonder how many people now make regular use of it and have fond memories of it, with no idea of the structure's atrocious past. The plans range in size from 18 x 24 inches to 36 x 44 inches and are scanned full size at a resolution of 400 dpi. Most show full interior details and floor plans. Many even show all the small details such as door latches. It is enough detail to build you models to an extreme level of accuracy. With photo editing software you can resize the plans on the computer and print them out in actual size for your use. The plans are all in TIFF format and the photos are in JPEG format. Just make sure that you have software that can handle these file formats. Just about any of them will. Adobe Photoshop works great. All plans are scaled drawings. That makes it very simple to convert them to any scale that you want to work with.
