Carte de Visite album wi th collection of cards Campion, Roper, Ingle Families This is a superb collection of carte de visites and later photos, in an attractive album. There are 62 named CDVs,, with an additional 33 photos or photo postcards.. Virtually all pictured are named in the album or on the reverse of the card, and all belong to an extended family taking in the names Campion, Roper and Ingle. The album itself is in brown leather, with a decorative pattern picked out in black and gilt. The clasp is present, but just missing the catch. There are a few tears where cards have been carelessly removed and replaced in the past, but not many. The album begins with the patriach of the family, Henry Campion, a dentist, born C.1829 in Exeter, Devon. He was married to Eliza Mary (nee Roper). The first CDV od Henry is dated August 1858, an this is followed by a series of cards from the 1860s, showing Henry and Eliza, with their children Charles Thomas Campion, George Goring Campion, Annette Jane Campion , Henry Campion Jr and Herbert Roper Campion, and then follows the children through the 1870s and 1880s and through to adulthood. Others named are Janet Foson (March 1874); I J Rodwell (1883). There are then a series of photographs (not CDVS) of Philpip, Denis and Leslie Campion, I believe the children of George Goring Campion.
