An antique c.d.v. photo of Antoine, duke of Montpensier (1824 - 1890), father in law of King Alfonso XII of Spain Description: On offer is this attractive carte de visite photo of the Antoine, duke of Montpensier. It shows his portrait dressed as a civilian. Antoine Marie Philippe Louis d'Orleans, duc de Montpensier was the youngest son of King Louis Philippe of France and his wife Maria Amelia Teresa of the Two Sicilies . He was born on 31 July 1824 at the château de Neuilly-sur-Seine and died 4 February 1890 at Sanlúcar de Barrameda , Spain. On 10 October 1846 at Madrid , Spain , he married Infanta Luisa Fernanda of Spain , legally the daughter of King Fernando VII of Spain and his wife Maria Christina of the Two Sicilies . One of his children was Mercedes (1860-1878), who married Alfonso XII of Spain The cdv photograph is signed on front and back by Pierson & Braun Fils, Paris, and hand inscribed: 'Montpensier'. It measures approximately 4 1/8 x 2 3/8 inches (104 x 63 mm) and is in excellent condition. This type of photo was commonly made during the second half of the 19th century and is usually called ' Carte de Visite '.
