CELLULOID ETUI (SEWING CASE) SCISSORS STER THIMBLE Vintage French Ivory Sewing Kit, Antique Thimble! Hi, everybody! I have made some minor changes to the format and have a few of new rules, so please read carefully. I am going to end the summer with a BANG & I have LOTS of wonderful things to list! Also, I thought I'd give you a heads up on w I'm going! I will be listing lots of necklaces , earrings , bracelets , brooches , rings , and cuff links followed by lots of antique and vintage sterling pieces . It may not all happen in that order, but at least you know my intention. I will also be sprinkling a few pieces of OLD enamel glassware , vintage sewing collectibles , enamelware , and so much more ! So, please be sure to add me to your favorites list !! Offered for auction is a wonderful old celluloid etui, which holds a pair of embroidery scissors and a European sterling thimble. (Celluloid is sometimes referred to as French Ivory.) The front of the case has a celluloid button for opening and silver metal hinges in the back. I don't know if they are sterling; however, they do have a nice patina to them. The case closes securely with a nice snap. It measures 3-1/4" L x 1-11/16" W x 7/8" D; this does not account for the button closure in the front nor the hinges in the back. The scissors may be original to the etui, as it fits the recessed compartment just fine. The sterling thimble is not original to the case; it fits in the recessed compartment, but not the way the original would have. The scissors appear to have had a gilt wash on the upper half, but only 20% or so remains. The scissors measure a little more than 2" L x slightly less than 1-1/2" W. T are not marks on it. The antique thimble is sterling silver w/ an overall hand engraved daisy motif. The rim of the thimble is engraved w/ European hallmarks as follows: " 9, SF, standing lion, lion head, and M ." My interpretation is ' 9' is the thimble size , ' SF ' are the maker's initials , the ' standing lion' is the British hallmark for sterling silver , the ' lion head ' is the British hallmark for London and the ' M' may be the year/ date letter for 1859 . If any of this is incorrect, please let me know, and thank you in advance. FYI: An etui (pronounced et-wee) is a small container, with recessed areas inside for fitted sewing (or vanity) tools or items. New Rule(s): Insurance, which is optional on most items, is recommended and is the buyers' responsibility ; however, all domestic purchases over $75.00 must have insurance. All domestic packages are mailed with a delivery confirmation (this is not new, I've been shipping this way all along, but never mentioned it to my buyers).
