DETAILS OF ITEM This piece measures 9 inches high and 6.5 inches wide. This is a ceramic Whisky bottle decanter, though the contents is long gone as it depicts a rabbit on the moon. The rabbit is holding a Kine pounder and making Mochi rice cake. From ancient times, rabbits are the symbol of rebirth in China and Japan probably due to the association with the Moon because the Moon repeats the cycle of New Moon to Full Moon that in turn symbolizes life's renewal and rebirth. In ancient China and Japan people believed that t were rabbits in the Moon and making rice cakes that would make you immortal. Over time rabbits become the symbol of rebirth and good luck and Chinese pastries like Moon Cakes symbolize longevity. The top of the Kine pounder is a cap. It was probably a decanter for whisky that was made for the Year of the Rabbit sometime in the 1980's. The condition of this piece is still very good.
