This early and rare Chad Valley girl doll has a stockinette face and arms with cloth body. The doll has blue glass eyes and brown mohair wig. She is dressed in a red velvet outfit and hat, trimmed with white plush, and red felt shoes. The doll has its original cardboard tag. One side of the tag reads "The Caresse Doll, Patented, Sole Makers, Chad Valley Co., Ltd." The reverse side of the tag reads: "Chad Valley Hygienic Fabric Toys, Made in England." There is a celluloid button on the back of the dress with "Chad Valley British Hygienic Toys." The doll was produced in the 1920s in Staffordshire, England by Joseph and Alfred Johnson. A similar doll is pictured in Polly Judd's Cloth Doll book and valued at $200-$275. The doll is 16 inches tall, and it is in good all original condition: however, her red clothes have faded, and the strap is torn on one of the felt shoes.
