Figures in a landscape by Charles S. Chapman NA 1879-1962 Oil on masonite , measures 10" x 9" signed lower left Charles S. Chapman NA has some slight loss upper center, mostly of green paint, should be easy to fix. Major listed artist and member of National Academy and Salmagundi Club. Studied at Pratt institute and with William Merrit Chase in NYC. Chapman was greatly influenced by Frederic Remington and painted many scenes of the American West in illustrator style. I've seen several examples of these smaller modernist works by him which are all quite dark and moody. This may have been an experimental technique that he used. I read that he used an unusual technique of floating oil paint in water on surfaces and transfering to another surface with paper. As stated , this has slight loss upper center please see up close. US shipping only shipping cost $14 USPS priority mail if not satisfied return for refund thanks!
