For sale is a fine and terribly rare first one-volume edition of The Old Curiosity Shop , by Charles Dickens. Published by Chapman and Hall, The Strand, London, 1841. 223p.p. Illustrated throughout by George Cattermole and Hablot K. Browne. Bound in a very fine red morocco over silk. Raised bands with inner-borders of gilt, separated by panels of ornate flora. The title stamped in gilt to the spine. Greek key decoration to the boards. All page edges gilt. 'Hatched' design to the endpapers. Externally it is largely bright, and very tight and unrolled. A small amount of surface rubbing to the spine and corners. Internally it is beautifully bright and complete. Overall, a very rare opportunity to own a wonderful example of this classic tale.
