Miss the old version of this page? everything on one long page. ltpme his sweet coverlet features a bold, cheerful potted Pomegranate motif. The single green and two different chrome yellow calicoes, and especially the classic Turkey Red have a classic mid-19th century look, but this specific double-pink reads like a later one, perhaps late 1800's or early 20th century, so maybe the appliqus were salvaged from something else and then added to this simple single-weight coverlet setting later. One of the sweetest details is the single large appliqu motif laid across the sashing along the head of the coverlet, presumably to appear over the pillows on the bed. The overall design is charming and winsome, but there are condition issues especially to the Turkey Red so this unusual find is offered at no reserve. Size The coverlet measures about 72" x 87" . Depending on the layout of the leaves, the potted Pomegranate motifs range up to 12 x 20 inches. Their stalks are about 3/4-inch wide and the round blossom/fruit motif is about 5-6 inches across. Construction The top is machine-pieced together of four large muslin panels. Machine-stitched bands of double-pink sash and frame the four quarters. These are prettily mitered by hand at three of the four corners. The appliqu is all by hand with fine small stitches just grabbing the edge. read more
