This is the original share certificate given to Chelsea Chairman Joseph Brian Mears on him succeeding Len Withey as chairman in 1969. The certificate is for four shares, numbers 1108 to 1111. Dated the eighth of July 1969, it is signed by two directors and the company Secretary of ther club and has the red Chelsea FC Official Company Stamp. Beautiful original, unique and historic item. J B Mears lived from 25-4-1935 till 28-7-2009. He was the son of previous chairman Joe Mears and grandson of the founder of Chelsea Joseph Mears. Although he presided over a famous period of the clubs history when they won the FA Cup and Cup Winners Cup, many will always hold him responsible for taking the club to the verge of ruin, mainly due to the costly redevelopment of the bridge. After being removed from the board by Viscount Chelsea, he sold out to Ken Bates for £1. He later sold his shares to Marler Estates who wanted to redevelop the ground into housing. An interesting and historical document.
