Beautiful chess and checkers set. In the image see round "made in italy" stamp, which is found on every chess piece.The chess pieces are made of some sort of metal, and are colored silver and gold. The checkers pieces are plastic.The box is made of wood and stained black. The game board itself is made of leather and colored black and gold. Everything that you see on the board that is black is embossed, and has a very nice feel to it.I bought this in Venice as an expensive souvenir, however I don't play chess so I just never use the set.Set is in very good condition. Pieces are stored on the inside and each chess piece has its own separate place.The inside is made of plastic with a velvety covering. The red plastic inside is discolored slightly in the corners. I tried to capture it in the photos so you get an honest feel for the discoloration, however you can't see it; I am not a photographer.This is a beautiful set; I paid around $90 in Venice for this set 10 years ago.The cardboard box that the set comes in (see image in lower left corner) is somewhat scratched and some of the colored cardboard is torn off where the scotch tape was. Also has some writing scratched into box, however it does the job of protecting the set. The box is structurally sound but not so pretty anymore after 10 years of hanging around on the book shelf.
