This is the fifth Hitty Rockbridge that I have carved using this very old chestnut oak from a cabin in the 1790's in Virginia. Hitty is 6 and 5/8 inches tall. She wears a dress made of cotton fabric that fastens in back with 2 snaps. Her white cotton apron is a separate piece that ties in back. Underneath her dress she wears pantaloons. She has been sealed with tung oil and painted with acrylic paints. Hitty has little flaws in her wood due to the age of the wood, which just adds to her unique look. She will stand by herself but is sometimes stubborn about that and needs a little encouragement. The following link will tell you much more about the history of this tree and the great effort being made to restore the American Chestnut tree in our country. /articles/rebirth-of-the-american-chestnut-tree/ Here are the specifics about the wood: The wood for the dolls came from a cabin is located in RockbridgeCounty, Virgina.
