THIS ITEM: American Victorian princess dresser in paint of the period, c.1880s or 90s, an outstanding find retaining original milk paint, in a warm, naturally aged, heirloom off-white bone color, having naturally CRACKLED over the course of 100 years. Made of all solid oak underneath (no veneer), and of much better than average quality, both in design and craftsmanship. Extremely well-built! Dovetailed drawers, bowed front, panelled sides and back, deep and articulately routed edge moulding: Hardware of the best quality, all solid cast brass, no thin stamped parts, all original to the peice. These are not repros. The absolute best part about this sweetie is the crackling! I flipped when I first saw it! You just never find it of this high quality in original paint. You can absolutely tell this is the only time this piece has ever been painted, and the utmost care and attention that went into painting it- that they left the handles unpainted, and with no drips, brushmarks almost non-existent, thin and smooth but well-coated, so thorough, and then that it was prized enough to be cared for and left alone this way for SO long, with no repainting or overpainting.
