Chinese hand-embroidered silk coverlet or shawl Chinese hand-embroidered silk coverlet or shawl, late 1800's. Made from creme or ivory crepe and bordered all around with a very deep hand-knotted silk fringe. The dazzling color of the vibrant flowers bring this beautiful silk piece of art to life and is is breathtaking. There are four large vibrant red roses with beautiful depth of color and shading. Vines of flowers and leaves are throughout the 50" x 50" embroidered panel. There are peach, yellow, blue, orange, red and pink flowers all beautifully shaded and all beautifully balanced with gorgeous green vines. Each quadrant of the panel repeats the same pattern. The variety, brilliance, and verisimilitude of the flowers testify to the peerless artistry of the designer. Not only is the embroidery magnificent- also the knotted work around it- and the deep fringe.This is a truly magnificent work of art. The condition is excellent with no tears or breaks.
