Egret 6 th rank civilian badge late Qing dynasty, 14¾” square dark blue reserve or background silk brown, tan, and beige egret with a red crest and gray legs the egret looks toward the two-tone coral sun in upper right, symbolizing loyalty and service to the emperor with wings extended out diagonally, the egret stands on its right leg on a brown and beige rocky outcropping crashing waves of white and light shades of blue are depicted as rolling hills ending in white finger-like wave crests surrounding the center rock ruyi -shaped and various other shaped clouds in white, light blue,and pastel blue surround the egret throughout the upper 3/4s of the scene in the far upper left are two bats (one in reds and coral, the other tan and pink) that probably symbolize great good fortune the scene is surrounded by a border of pastel orange, yellow, and green curvilinear forms, which resemble simplified Chinese characters a narrow liner mat of burgundy silk separates the blue background silk from the traditional patterned border of brown, tan, and pastel blue around the outer most edge is a thin black silk border Please make sure that you are ready and able to meet your obligation should you win this auction.
