A CHINESE CARVED SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF WEN CHANG 19TH CENTURY This is for an antique carved soapstone figure of Wen Chang, second-half of 19th century. The soapstone figure is skillfully carved in the form of the Chinese God of literature Wen Chang , depicted seated wearing a long robe, his face depicted with a thoughtful expression, holding his long beard and a book, with incised detail on the knee, shoulder and belt. The soapstone has a two-tone hue, darker green at the top and ligh green at the bottom, and is displayed on a carved reticulated spinach green and black display stand. The condition is generally excellent, without damage or repair, there are no chips or repairs. Please see images. Height: 10.2 / 4 inches. Width: 7.6 cm / 3 inches. Weight: 268 grams.
