F-099 Magnificent set of Chinese woodblock print book produced by the Rong Bao Zhai studio in Peking in 1951. Rong Bao Zhai was a collective fine art studio located in the Xuanwu District of Beijing, after 1949 it was nationalized and served as premiere Chinese work shop for block and woodcut printing, it also served as an art gallery for many famous Chinese painters of the period, including QI BAISHI (Ch'i Pai-shih). Due to the concentration of skilled artisans on hand in the years immediately following the revolution, the studio was able to undertake the printing of a limited number of woodblock print books, which according to many scholars are among the most finely-printed illustrated Chinese books of all time. The present volume is one of their most magnificent creations from these years, in the form of an homage to QI BAISHI, collecting woodcuts after his own paintings, intermixed with paintings of his students and colleagues in the fine art world of Peking in the early 20th century. Consisting of two matching volumes, each with (90) full page color woodcuts with hand-finished and ornamentation, bound in custom wooden boards covered with a golden embroidered silk binding.
