Especially The Netherlands had a strong commercial link with China. Oriental porcelain was imported to Holland by the Dutch East Indies Company (VOC), which had special trading privileges to China and Japan. Although manufactured to be used as tableware, most of this Oriental porcelain was displayed in special China cabinets in distinguished houses. On offer is this attractive Chinese porcelain baluster shaped vase, hand decorated in under glaze blue on milky white, and dating to the Kangxi period (1662-1722). The intense blue color of the decoration and the very white porcelain, indicate that this is certainly a top quality Kangxi piece. The vase has a circular base and a flaring neck. The object is decorated with palmetto's surrounding a central band, decorated with three symbols taken from 'the eight treasures'.The vase is in excellent condition, with no severe damages, repairs, or cracks, but has minute chips/frittings to the upper rim, as visible on the pictures, not detracting from the appearance of this early piece of Chinese read more
