Up for sale is a rare copy of the Christliches gemüths-gespräch (catechisim) published in Ephrata in 1769. An important text, this is the first American edition. Text in German. More complete title is Christliches gemüths-gespräch von dem geistlichen und seligmachenden glauben, und erkäntniss der wahrheit, so zu der gottseligkeit führet in der hoffnung des ewigen lebens, Tit. I, v. I..." Very scarce first printing published during American colonial days at the venerable Ephrata printing shop. Overall in fair /fair- condition. Boards are leather over wood. Front board detached. Heavy wear and staining to front board. Front board warped. Spine and rear board in solid condition with some chipping to spine, staining to boards. Interior has moderate to in places heavy wear. Browning to pages with spotting, soiling and staining present throughout; heaviest at front and rear. Chips and some small rips in places. Very old previous owner writing in German. May be an inscription. Other dings here and there. By no means perfect but a very scarce and important publication in decent shape.
