Christopher Compton Hall (1930 - ). Oil painting on board: 15 3/4" x 11 1/2", fully signed and dated lower left (1965). Titled verso: "Bigbury, Devon" and also states "Christopher Hall 6 Porchester Road, Newbury Berks". � Painting is in good condition except a small area on the bottom where some rubbing against the frame has occured. � Normal wear on frame.Christopher Hall's work is quite well known and has been passing through London galleries for a couple of decades, though other than to describe him as a "Modern British Artist", which was once enough said, he is difficult to quantify. There's a touch of deliberate naivety about his style, as if he was taught or influenced by one of the northern industrial artists. Architecture and people figure strongly in his work and he's good with both. In this particular work � seems to be the road leading into Bigbury with a lone horse or cattle grazing in the field below the center. � This painting is from a Rhode Island estate and we will be listing another larger painting by Christopher Compton Hall. � Please see pictures and ask any questions.
