CHURNGOLD 6” VINTAGE RULER OHIO BUTTERINE CO. CINCINNATI, Ohio. This is a vintage promotional 6-inch ruler that promoted The Ohio Butterine Company (OBC) or Cincinnati , Ohio , and their Churngold margarine. In 1900, Andrew Rohan founded the Cincinnati , and in January 1907, the Ohio River flooded the city destroying many business locations including the company’s offices and salesrooms in their multi-floor building on Walnut Street that collapsed. The 6” ruler has six inch spacing on its beige-colored face along with a black box that contains “For The Lady’s (sic) / Work Basket,” the brand-name “Churngold,” and “The Ohio Butterine Company / Cincinnati, Ohio.” The reverse side repeats “Churngold,” and depicts an image of a package of margarine alongside the words “Pure, Sweet, Wholesome / A Good Spread for Bread / Made in the Milky Way / Costs Less.” The ruler is in very good condition with some age-related soiling, and a small piece of its surface wood (3/8x3/8“) missing from its reverse side that affects the words “Wholesome” and “Bread,” (SEE IMAGE).
