Cicely Mary Barker Miniature Garden Elderberry Flower Fairy Figurine Ornament Size: 3.5" High Material: Resin Care: Spray with polyurethane for protection before placing in the sun Description: Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Earth laughs in flower.” Lying comfortably on the wall in the garden, the Elderberry Fairy reveals a grin to show pleasure in the joy of gardening. Wearing a crown of twigs and elderberries, this fairy was illustrated in the book, Flower Fairies of the Autumn. The publication of a series of Flower Fairies books beginning in 1923 brought English novelist and illustrator Cicely Mary Barker international acclaim. Barker selected the Elderberry shrub as an inspiration for the drawing of the fairy, because of the white showy flower blooms and purple-black berrylike fruit. Pictures included in her books were the creative ideas for the hand-painted fairies.
