This is a civil war cavalry sword field modified to a fighting bowie knife with D guard. It is 16 3/8" long, blade is 12" long and 1 1/2" wide at tang area. It was made out of a 1840 wrist breaker cavalry sword with top blood groove on top of both sides., tip is clip point. With a glass you can see the makers mark on the tang, Horstman and Sons Philadelphia and the top of the kings head crown on rear tang. That is the mark of Weyersburg who made the blades for Horstman and Sons and this mark was last used in 1862 and changed. The D guard is iron, the handle is leather with a brass band ring on both ends. Has an old square nut holding all together. Handle and D guard are tight. Blade has been sharpened 3/4 of the length of the blade. This came out of an old estate in Helena, Arkansas about 6 months ago along with a civil war musket and other civil war items that were already sold. Shipping is $15.00 USPS, email any questions or comments and thanks for looking.. NO sheath.
