Soldiers were not allowed to use US Government official envelopes. Typically the soldier simply crossed out the Official Business or placed the stamp over top of the imprinting. The main scan is before and after, then next to last is with the "piece" removed, last scan is with the piece "hinged" back in place. The cover is reduced slightly on the left side. The Soldier, Benjamin Beach Co H 11th Iowa Volunteers was a Capt. at the time of posting this cover, he ended the war as Lieut. Col. This is a very unusual Union Occupied Nashville Tenn.
